Artex Removal & Over-boarding

Artex is a surface coating used in interior decorating, most often found on ceilings. The name ‘Artex’ is actually a trademark of Artex Ltd. but ‘Artex’ tends to be used as a general term to refer to any products which create a textured finish - usually stippled or swirled patterns - on interior surfaces.

Artex is still sold to this day but textured ceiling finishes are much less popular now and many of my customers contact me in the first instance to cover or remove their Artex to create a smooth surface instead.

It is important to note that, until the mid-1980s, Artex was made with white asbestos to strengthen it so removal isn’t always the best option, that is when I advise over-boarding.
